Aquariums can sometime appear intimidating. All you need to remember is to follow a few simple steps:

- gravel, usually 1 to 1.5 pounds per gallon.
- a lid (usually with a light) some fish have a tendency to jump.
- filter Usually buy a filter that will handle an aquarium double the size
- optional a heater unless you plan on having only goldfish. There is a vast selection of tropical fish.
- Some kind of a sturdy stand, full aquariums can weigh in excess of 10 pounds per gallon in weight.
